Top 8 Remedies to Soothe a Teething Baby
It can be difficult to watch a teething baby and not know how to ease their discomfort. Here are some suggestions to keep your baby free from pain:
1. Chilled Fruit
Chilled bananas make a great healthy snack to ease the gums of your teething baby. To help prevent the risk of baby choking, place the fruit in a mesh feeder, and give to your baby to lick or suck on. If using a mesh feeder you can experiment with other types of fruit such as steamed apples, strawberries, mangoes or ripe pears.
2. Cold Washcloth
Submerge a clean washcloth in water, wring it out until just damp, then place in the fridge. Once cool, fold it smaller and give to your baby to chew. A word of warning: don't leave your child unattended, as this can be a choking hazard.
3. Metal Spoon
Cool metal can be soothing, so grab a regular teaspoon from your kitchen drawer, pop it in the fridge and when cool, rub the back of the spoon against your baby's gums.
4. Chilled Non-Gel Teething Toy
Pop your baby's favourite teething toy in the fridge to let it cool before handing to your baby, and be sure to keep it clean. It doesn't matter if it's in the shape of her favourite animal or fruit. The important thing is that it's easy for your baby to hold.
5. Dribble Bibs
With teething, comes lots of extra dribble. Help protect your baby's clothes with dribble bibs and neckerchiefs. It's much easier to wipe baby's chin with this rather than searching for a tissue or muslin. Gently wipe her face often to help prevent any rash or irritation but not so often that you create your own irritation.
